 Understanding Spondylosis, Spondylolysis, and Spondylolisthesis: Spondylosis - Degenerative arthritis of the spine, involving the discs and vertebral bodies. - Common in older adults, can occur in cervical, thoracic, or lumbar regions. - Symptoms vary, often none, or local pain and stiffness. - Can lead to other conditions like spondylolisthesis or spinal stenosis. Spondylolysis - Stress fracture of the pars interarticularis region of a vertebra. - Common in children/adolescents due to repetitive hyperextension. - Symptoms include low back pain, worse with extension. - Usually heals with rest, rarely needs surgery. Spondylolisthesis - Forward slippage of a vertebra on the one below due to spondylolysis. - Varies in severity based on amount of slip and nerve compression. - Symptoms can include low back pain, neurologic defects in legs. - Treatment aimed at relieving nerve compression.
